| Genie Network Resource Management Inc.(GenieNRM Inc.) today announced that Taiwan Broadband Communications (TBC), one of the largest Multiple Service Operators (MSOs) in Taiwan, has selected the GenieATM+GenieNPC Solution to visualize its service network traffic, as well as differentiated traffic control for better network management and resource utilization..
Peer-to-peer (P2P) networking has emerged as an increasingly popular way for broadband subscribers to share digital content such as music and videos, and an increasingly problematic cause of bandwidth bottlenecks for many broadband providers. As one of the largest cable broadband service providers in Taiwan, TBC faced a number of challenges caused by the P2P traffic, which include bandwidth hogging consumes the capacity available, persistent connections across traditional peak-/off-peak- hours, and huge volume of expensive off-net traffic in search of P2P hosts. These challenges led to lots of unsatisfied subscribers and increased churn of TBC, leaving it with a smaller but increasingly capex-intensive customer base.
Addressing these challenges, TBC has purchased and successfully deployed GenieNRM’s GenieATM and GenieNPC systems. GenieATM is a high performance network traffic analysis and security protection solution. It provides advanced traffic visibility for various operation and business applications. The visibility is the key controlling and optimizing IP service delivery. GenieNPC is a carrier-grade traffic service control system capable of performing traffic classification and control up to L7. Through its flexible bandwidth policy configuration, GenieNPC enables network managers to limit unwanted application bandwidth consumption, prevent revenue-impacting services, block attacks, ensure business-critical application, and offer differentiated services.
With the total solution of GenieATM+GenieNPC, TBC now gains end-to-end visibility into popular services (e.g. P2P, VoIP, online gaming, video, etc.) on the network and subscriber and application usage patterns. It also offers TBC a complete suite of bandwidth management tools to effectively prevent network abuse and ensure performance of critical applications. Using the GenieATM+GenieNPC solution helps TBC reduce overall operations expenditures and minimize capital expenditures by optimizing the bandwidth utilization.
"A cable broadband service provider like TBC faces more severe challenges caused by P2P traffic than DSL service providers due to the shared medium nature of its downstream bandwidth capacity,“ said Po-wen Tseng, Senior Manager of Product Marketing, GenieNRM. "We are proud to provide TBC with the network visibility and bandwidth optimization tools needed for their networks. Furthermore, the successful deployment in TBC reinforces GenieNRM’s presence as an effective solution provider for MSOs to fight P2P traffic inflation and increase Return of Investment (ROI) of their bandwidth resources."
