| Genie Network Solutions appointed as GenieNRM Distributor for South East Asia
GenieNRM today announced that LiaoHe Petroleum’s ISP Business has deployed the GenieNPC Solution to policy control network application traffic and optimize its network bandwidth utilization.
LiaoHe Petroleum's ISP business is currently managing around 40,000 subscribers with about 3000 - 4000 new subscribers per year. The ISP business also provides hosting services to small enterprises and the gaming businesses. With the increasing in customer base, the bandwidth requirement has also been increasingly demanding.
Before deploying GenieNPC, they have always been experiencing a congested network issue during the peak hours which is from 6PM until about 2AM. The congestion led to lots of unsatisfied network service subscribers and increased churn of LiaoHe Petroleum’s ISP. Another major issue with the network congestion problem is that the gaming business usually complained about the slowness in network responses. The slow network response is a devastating problem for every online game which requires real-time response in order to provide a satisfying experience for their online game users. Throwing more bandwidth at the problem is a temporary and ineffective solution, as the capacity available was consumed and the congestion reappeared in no time. Due to all the above mentioned problems, LiaoHe Petroleum ISP started to look for a traffic controlling device to shape and manage their current network traffic and will cut down the "bandwidth-greedy" user applications to an acceptable level.
Therefore, LiaoHe Petroleum ISP purchased and successfully deployed GenieNRM’s GenieNPC system in their network. GenieNPC is currently managing the multiple GbE traffic links from LiaoHe Petroleum ISP’s tier-one service provider, and these are the aggregated links from their edge switches and routers to the internet backbone. GenieNPC is a carrier-grade traffic service control system capable of performing traffic classification and control up to L7. Through its flexible bandwidth policy configuration, GenieNPC enables network managers to limit unwanted application bandwidth consumption, prevent revenue-impacting services, block attacks, ensure business-critical application, and offer differentiated services.
With the GenieNPC reporter feature, the real cause for LiaoHe Petroleum ISP’s network congestion was instantly identified - from the over-usage of P2P applications and streaming media applications. Before the traffic management policies are being executed, it can be seen that P2P and multimedia streaming traffic were accounted for almost 1/2 of LiaoHe Petroleum ISP’s total traffic. The traffic is the blame for the network congestion problems they were experiencing. After the management policies are being executed by GenieNPC, the total traffic usage has drop to about 20% from the controlling of P2P and streaming multimedia traffic. Also since the execution, there have been rarely customer complaints about latency issues for the online games, or slowness in HTTP activities.
“GenieNPC is always committed to satisfy customers' demands,” said CJ Chen, Senior Manager of Product Marketing, GenieNRM. “in addition to achieve the goal of better control the bandwidth usage, LiaoHe Petroleum also like GenieNPC and also GenieNRM as the company for our lightening fast responses to support the detection for new protocols and user applications that are running in their networks.”
