GenieATM's High Capacity Solution: Dispatches up to 1,000,000 flows/s to Cluster Flow Collectors via Flow Load Balancer
Administrators are often perplexed by the imbalanced situation that some of the deployed collectors are excessively overloaded while some others are used scarcely. When the number of received flows is unexpectedly low, the infrastructure deployment could be manually adjusted. Conversely, when the flows received exceed the manageable capacity of collectors, the immediate solution for administrators is to increase the number of hardware devices to cope with the need, which adversely induces additional network investment and management inefficiency.
GenieATM is capable of supporting cluster flow load balance. GenieATM6130 Flow Load Balancer deployed in the network allows administrators to group it with GenieATM collectors to form the “Cluster Collectors,” which will load-balance and dispatch the flow packets to the cluster of GenieATM Collectors via intelligent packet load balancing mechanisms. Consequently, the flow processing capacity of each collector can be optimized without investing in additional devices to accommodate huge traffic flows from a single routing device.
Deployment of FLB
Distributed Architecture with Centralized Control
GenieATM 6130/6160, the Flow Load Balancer (FLB), is specifically designed to further optimize the performance of GenieATM collectors. It permits to dynamically load-balance a huge traffic aggregated from a single routing device for cluster collectors to collect flows. It can also receive traffic flow packets from multiple routers or Flow Exporter. The standard packet formats of NetFlow™, NetStream™ and sFlow are supported. Built-in SNMP and BGP modules can forward the SNMP Polling data and BGP update messages from the router to GenieATM Controller; reduce the routing message flows that are assigned multiple collectors for delivery.
Flow Dispatch Policy
Three dispatch policies are supported by Flow Load Balancer, while different portion of flows will be received among a group of Collectors
Flows received via the Flow Load Balancer are dispatched evenly to each Collector.
Administrators can manually define a weighted value for each Collector, indicating that different portion of flows shall be dispatched to these Collectors.
The weighted value shall be assigned by the system according to the model number of the Collectors. The Collector model equipped with a higher flow capacity will be assigned with more flows.
