Overview
Real-time and Network-wide Visibility for Service Providers and Enterprise
The explosive growth of the Internet and Intranet traffic has created a major challenge to both service providers and enterprise. Viruses, worms, even P2P applications are continuously degrading the network performance, stability and quality of services. To ensure the secure and smooth delivery of network services, the demand of measurement technology has emerged to provide the information required to record network and application resource utilization. GenieATP provides solutions by visualizing into every network segments including Core, Distribution and Access layers and presenting rich, real-time flow information to efficiently and cost-effectively optimize network stability and performance.

Real-time Flow Capturing and Exporting
GenieATP is a dedicated, hardware-based network traffic probe that delivers real-time and network-wide visibility to service providers and enterprise. Based on the Genie’s powerful Network Processor, GenieATP is the only device that can simultaneously capture network traffic from multiple Gigabit Ethernet links and export traffic flow information in real-time while maintaining data accuracy. The traffic flow information generated by GenieATP includes source, destination, ports, protocols, ASN and variety of other details. This information enables operators to obtain a greater view into the network. Additionally, the network-wide visibility empowers operators to have the ability to monitor and analyze the network for network optimization.

Enable Diversified Applications
The traffic flow information exported by GenieATP enables diversified network monitoring and traffic analysis applications that match the business goal of service providers and enterprise. The network operator can add multiple GE ports of GenieATP into an Inventory to build up the relationship between GE ports of GenieATP and Router/Switch and configure an Exporter to export flow information to a specific flow collector. Multiple Exporter are available to export flow information from multiple Inventory to different flow collectors for desired applications and each Exporter has its own flow-related configuration, including Flow Destination and Flow-based sampling policy. Especially, EACL (Extended Access Control List) can be configured for each Exporter to define the traffic domain that network operator wants to export. This flexible configuration enables different functional teams of service providers and enterprise the capability to deploy its own flow collector and analyzer to perform traffic analysis tasks that are related to their responsibilities. For example, security monitoring for security team, usage-based network billing for business team, network planning, AS peer monitoring, application monitoring and user monitoring for network management team. The ability of exporting desired flow information to multiple flow collectors by a single GenieATP makes service providers and enterprise capable of deploying flow analyzers to manage and control their mission critical networks.

Out-of-Band Monitoring
GenieATP can be easily deployed in the existing networks as following:

  • Non-intrusive packet capture through attaching to TAP/Coupler.
  • Attaching to SPAN/Mirror port of switch.

The deployment of GenieATP introduces no impact to network performance. And GenieATP is transparent to the monitored network.

Monitor Cost-Effectively
A single GenieATP can monitor up to 8 unidirectional or 4 bi-direction Gigabit Ethernet links. It is also capable of delivering powerful packet processing capability for exporting flow information. This capability minimizes the number of network probes required to monitor the network of service providers and enterprise. A proactive network-wide traffic analysis can be realized in a cost-effective way.
