GenieNRM today
announced that HiNet of Chunghwa Telecom, the leading Internet
Service Provider in Taiwan, has selected the GenieATP+GenieATM
Solution to better visualize its service network traffic,
as well as in-depth traffic analysis for troubleshooting and
network planning.
Operating the largest IP backbone networks in Taiwan, HiNet
faces a range of traffic management challenges, in which traditional
network management systems fall short to address. With the
ultra-scale networks and increasing focus on profitability,
HiNet was looking for a novel traffic management solution
which delivers capability of capacity planning, performance
monitoring, troubleshooting, and anomaly reporting and alarming.
The challenge, however, starts from finding a scalable, manageable,
and reliable solution to provide the necessary data to support
these applications. The NetFlow technology, developed by Cisco,
collects and measures data as it enters specific routers or
switch interfaces. By analyzing NetFlow data, a network manager
can identify the cause of congestion, determine the class
of service (CoS) for each user and application, and identify
the source and destination network for the traffic. NetFlow
allows extremely granular and accurate traffic measurements
and hence the trend of traffic analysis in large-scale networks.
While many of Cisco network equipments support NetFlow generation,
there exist two challenges for a Service Provider (SP) like
HiNet. First of all, enabling NetFlow generation of Cisco
devices impacts the device performance to some degree as the
traffic volume increase . Therefore, to maintain certain headroom
for traffic growth and surge, SPs may demand an alternative
assuring solution for traffic flow information generation.
Secondly, for those non-Cisco-based network segments, the
network equipments are unable to export traffic flow information.
In order to extend the benefits of network visualization and
analysis capability into each critical segment of the whole
network, a traffic-info exportation agent is demanded.
In response, HiNet selected GenieATP+GenieATM total traffic
analysis solution for its ability to generate real-time flow
information with unmatched performance and deliver advanced
traffic analysis for various operation and business applications.
The GenieATP product provides the highest NetFlow exportation
performance in the market which resolved HiNet’s doubts
in performance impact of NetFlow enabling on routers and also
the problem of lacking of NetFlow exportation capability in
some critical network segments. The GenieATM product delivers
in-depth traffic analysis with its powerful logical combination
engine, and it allows HiNet to conduct various network O&M-wise
and business-wise analyses such as capacity planning, network
congestion monitoring, trouble-shooting and anomaly detection
and alarming.
GenieATP+GenieATM solution allows HiNet to proactively manage
their network infrastructure from a single point and identify
when and where problem occurs with pervasive network traffic
visibility. With the real-time traffic information generation,
continuous traffic monitoring and analysis, and real-time
traffic snapshot functions, HiNet can quickly identify, locate
and resolve problems even before customers ring to file complaints.
Using the GenieATP+GenieATM solution helps HiNet reduce overall
operations expenditures and minimize capital expenditures.
"This deal reinforces GenieNRM's presence as a leading
provider of network traffic management solution of truly Telecom/Service-Provider
grade," said Richard Liu, VP of Product Marketing, GenieNRM,
"it also clearly demonstrates the power of GenieNRM's
profound industry know-how in co-working with large-scaled
Telecom/SP customers to align its technology and business
practices to reduce costs and take advantage of emerging market
opportunities."
About Chunghwa Telecom and HiNet
Dedicated to creating a national network infrastructure for
Taiwanese businesses and individuals, Chunghwa Telecom created
HiNet in May 1994 and launched HiNet Internet Services on
April 1, 1995. HiNet now has been Taiwan’s largest ISP
and has by far the largest number of users in Taiwan. The
number of customers exceeded 3.56 million as of January 2004.
Along from having the largest market shares in Taiwan, HiNet
has also been voted as “Best ISP” and “Best
ADSL” by both the average general consumers and more
specialized information managers, in surveys conducted by
Information and Computers Institute for Information Technology
for five consecutive years. For more information, please visit
