| Genie Network Resource Management Inc.（GenieNRM Inc.） today announced that the headquarter of China NetCom (CNC), a leading broadband communications and fixed-line telecommunications operator in China, has chosen GenieNRM’s solutions for improving its data communication network (DCN) traffic manageability and security protection capability.
There are various network traffic analysis needs and security management needs from two individual application areas of CNC headquarter in Beijing: for its DCN providing business support services via Internet Virtual Private Network (VPN) connections and for its DCN supporting the office automation local area networks (O&A LAN.) The CNC group’s business supporting servers (including the MSS, BSS and OSS servers) are all deployed in Beijing headquarter DCN, and the overseas CNC branches, including Hong Kong, Los Angeles, London and Tokyo, access these servers via Internet VPN connections. In order to provide reliable and quality support services, CNC demanded a network traffic management solution to monitor and analyze the VPN traffic. For instance, CNC wants to know which branches are using how much service traffic of each server. As to the O&A LANs, CNC demanded better traffic management and security capabilities by gaining user identity-based application traffic visibility. In addition to the specific traffic analysis needs, the network-wide timely traffic anomaly detection was also a highlighted requirement.
After a thorough search for network traffic analysis and anomaly threat detection solutions, CNC headquarter decided to fulfill its needs by deploying GenieNRM’s GenieATM and GenieNPC solutions. In this deployment project, four GenieNPC were deployed to perform user-aware, L7 application intelligent traffic analysis. Three GenieNPCs were deployed in the electronic data center to analyze the VPN access traffic through the Internet, and one GenieNPC was installed in the of CNC headquarter O&A local area network to analyze the O&A network usage behavior. All the GenieNPCs deployed export traffic information with user and L7 application awareness in NetFlow compatible formats to the GenieATM controller deployed. The GenieATM acts as the centralized management and reporting interface to represent insightful traffic analyses and anomaly detection results.
With the newly deployed GenieATM Controller and four GenieNPC systems, CNC headquarter network management team now can gain pervasive traffic visualization, get user-n-application-aware traffic behavior analysis, understand how the business support services are utilized, and detect network anomalies, for the O&A local networks as well as the VPN network connections. GenieATM together with GenieNPC offer CNC headquarter network management team not only network-wide comprehensive traffic visibility, but also user-identity-aware and deep application insight to improve CNC headquarter network’s performance and manageability.
